Security Risk to MySpace Users

Free online blogging site, "Blogdrive" (blogdrive.com) was recently contacted by online networking site, "MySpace" regarding security issues with MySpace's log-on screen.

MySpace users are having their usernames/passwords harvested by dummy log-on screens.  MySpace users click on "bait" links luring users to non-existent MySpace user profiles.  When the MySpace user clicks the link, instead of going to the intended site, a dummy MySpace log-on screen appears.  The MySpace user, accustomed to having to constantly re-enter log-on information, enters his username/password not knowing he has given his information to a dummy site set up for the purpose of "phishing".

All free network and blog sites are susceptible, but "phishers" have been particularly drawn to Blogdrive due to its advanced programming and the ability of its users to totally customize their pages.

Blogdrive's official statement:

Since learning of the security risks concerning MySpace, we at Blogdrive are in communication with the MySpace abuse team and are deleting "phishers" from our system.  The inconvenience and security risk posed to users is staggering.  This new type of phishing is epidemic and it will be difficult to control until changes can be implemented to MySpace's log-on methods.

We'll be moving data centers on 6/29/06. During this time Blogs will be displayed but will only show posts that were made up until 6/28/06 5 PM PST till after the move is complete.

We upgraded the database over the weekend and have found some inconsistencies with the new version. To avoid potential data corruption we will be shutting down sections of the web site over today and tomorrow to correct any issues. Intermittent slow performance may be a side effect of the process.
